In this Torrey Pines golf course review, Best Golf Equipment Reviews will review both Torrey Pines golf courses. Torrey Pines golf course review! Torrey Pines is one of the best municipal golf courses you can find. So good that they host an annual PGA tour tournament and hosted the 2008 US Open. The City of San Diego manages Torrey Pines and offers some good deals to residents of San Diego. There are two golf courses at Torrey Pines; the South course and the North course. Best Golf Equipment Reviews has played Torrey Pines on several occasions and likes it. Both golf courses offer a good challenge to all levels of golfers. Torrey Pines was originally designed by William P. Bell and completed by his son, William F. Bell. Torrey Pines was finally completed and opened to the public in 1957. Both Torrey Pines golf courses stayed fairly the same until 1999 when Rees Jones started a redevelopment on them. One of the biggest changes was increasing the length of Torrey Pines South in preparation for the 2008 US Open. Both Torrey Pines golf courses test a player's skill with tight fairways, lush rough, as well as trees, bunkers, sand and often challenging weather conditions. On the South Course, there are many holes with direct views of the Pacific ocean, a hundred yards below the links, and several more with views of a huge natural canyon. Don't be alarmed at the hang gliders flying overhead and off the cliffs, there is a hang gliding port next to the 12th hole of the South course. The North Course offers several holes that are situated high atop the bluffs overlooking the coastline also. Torrey Pines offers a lodge, pro shop, large practice green, and a driving range. Torrey Pines South Golf CoursePerhaps the better of the two Torrey Pines golf courses, the South course is home to the weekend rounds of the PGA tournament and all four rounds of the 2008 US Open. The South course offers amazing views and some good golf holes. The Torrey Pines South golf course features poa annua greens, 80 sand traps, and one water hazard.
Torrey Pines North Golf CourseThe Torrey Pines North course has always been the "lesser" of the two, but is a great golf course. Since the redesign, the North course can definitely hold its own! The Torrey Pines North golf course features bentgrass with poa greens, 61 sand traps, and two water hazards.
As you can see, Torrey Pines golf course is not cheap if you are not a resident of the City of San Diego. They do offer junior, senior, and twilight rates though. No matter what, both Torrey Pines golf courses are worth playing at least once. The views are just as good as the golf is! Related Article: Pebble Beach Golf Course >> |
